Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 June 2026
SlabShot is an offline-first fishing log. The app reconstructs your catches on your own phone; by default nothing about your trips, catches, photos or location leaves the device. This policy explains the few cases where data is used or — only with your explicit choice — sent somewhere, and what this website collects.
The short version
- Your trips, catches and exact locations live on your phone. There is no SlabShot account and no automatic upload.
- When the app does reach the internet (area name + weather), your coordinates are coarsened first — your exact spot is never sent.
- Sharing your catch data with us is opt-in and off by default, and is reduced to a county-level area — never precise coordinates.
- We don't sell your data, run ads, or use third-party advertising/analytics trackers.
- This website collects an email address only if you join the waitlist.
Data the app handles
| Data | Why | Leaves your device? |
|---|---|---|
| Location (precise & approximate) | Tag catch positions and the trip track; show local conditions (weather, sunrise/sunset, solunar). On bank trips, catch positions come from the phone's GPS. | No, except: a coarsened (~county, ≈11 km) coordinate is sent to a weather/geocoding provider to fetch the area name and conditions. Exact coordinates are never transmitted. |
| Photos & videos | Read from your camera roll to group them to catches by timestamp, to render share cards, and (if you choose) to include in an export. | No. Processed on-device. A share card is a freshly drawn image with no GPS/EXIF. An export ZIP you create keeps your photos' original GPS — but it goes only where you send it. |
| Catch & trip data (depth, temp, species, weight, lure, times) | Your fishing log and on-device insights. | No, unless you opt in to data sharing (below). |
| Diagnostics (raw sonar/NMEA stream, app/device info) | To fix fish-finder compatibility, especially on brands we haven't tested. | Only when you choose to send a bundle. GPS coordinates in the stream are scrubbed (dummied) before it's shared. |
Optional, opt-in sharing
Two separate switches, both off by default and revocable anytime in the app (Settings → Data sharing):
Trip & catch sharing
If enabled, you can send your catches to SlabShot to help build regional, descriptive insights. Each catch's location is reduced to a county-level area name — no exact coordinates are included. Shared fields: species, weight, depth, water temp, lure, date, and the coarse area.
Diagnostic bundles
If enabled, you can send a diagnostic bundle (the GPS-scrubbed raw sonar stream plus connection/parse and app/device details) to help us support more fish-finders.
Nothing is sent automatically. Turning a switch on simply lets you send via your phone's normal share/email — you choose if and when.
This website (getslabshot.com)
The site is a static page hosted on Cloudflare Pages.
- Waitlist / tester sign-up. If you submit the form, we store the email address you provide, your consent, an optional "tester" preference, and basic request metadata (timestamp, country code) so we can email you about the launch and tester program. This is personal information you give us with explicit consent.
- In-app feedback & tester opt-in. If you send feedback from inside the app, we receive your message plus your app version and device model (for triage), and — only if you provide them — your email address and/or a request to join the tester program. We use this to improve SlabShot and, where you give an email, to reply or send a tester invite. It posts to the same Cloudflare endpoint as the waitlist; no exact location is included.
- No cookies, no advertising, no third-party analytics are set by this site.
- Our host (Cloudflare) processes standard server/security logs (including IP address) to deliver and protect the site, per their policies.
- We use your email only for SlabShot launch and tester communication. You can unsubscribe or request deletion at any time (see Contact).
Sharing & selling
We do not sell your personal information and do not share it with data brokers or advertisers. Limited service providers help us operate (e.g. site hosting, and the weather/geocoding lookup the app makes on coarsened coordinates); they process only what's needed for that function.
Retention
App data stays on your device until you delete a trip or the app. Waitlist emails are kept until you ask us to remove them or the waitlist program ends.
Your choices & rights
- Grant or deny location, photo, and notification permissions in Android settings — the app degrades gracefully without them.
- Keep all sharing off (the default), or turn it off anytime.
- Request access to, or deletion of, the email you gave the waitlist — email us below.
Children
SlabShot is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We'll update this page if our practices change and revise the date above.
